First of all, Luxembourg is a European country surrounded by France, Germany and Belgium. The people in Luxembourg is Luxembourgians/Luxembourgers, and all classes of people in Luxembourg speaks Luxemburgish. Luxembourgians speak the German language for various reasons. First of all, Luxembourgish is a German dialect. You can say this language is close to German.

Luxembourgians are alphabetized in German. In primary schools in Luxembourg, German and French are taught. Basically, the three official languages of Luxembourg are Luxembourgish, German and French.

Luxembourg is a small European country and Luxembourgers often visit Germany for multiple purposes be it for travel, shopping, work etc. They also watch German TV programs. However, one can’t deny the fact that there are older generation people - during and after the Second World War who speak very less German.

On the other hand, we all know that Dutch people are a Germanic ethnic group and nation native to the Netherlands. Honestly, Netherlands, as a European country, is not a German-speaking country. Dutchman speaks Dutch, and it won’t be wrong to say that most of the Germans and the Dutch converse in English.

Towards the end, there are several reasons why Luxembourgians speak German better than the average Dutchman.

Hope this helps!
